Modern Men’s Bags

What do you do when the warm weather arrives, and you don’t always have your jacket or sweater with pockets? At times your shorts or pants don’t have any pockets either. Where would you put your mobile phone, wallet, comb or anything else you need to carry for that day?

A murse, or man purse is no longer considered feminine by the majority anymore. Today, modern
men’s bags are all about being practical. There are a variety of styles and colors to choose from, along with being masculine. Below is a men’s brown travel bag with front pockets also known as the famous Saddleback, or the smaller version Saddlebag.mens brown travel bag with front pockets

When men first started to carry bags they were frowned upon and laughed at. They did not consider that these bags were something to carry their necessities in. Using a messenger bag with the long strap and flap closure, or the satchel which is a smaller version of the messenger bag, a waist pouch, backpack and duffel bag, all of which are the most popular, isn’t an issue as it was before.

They are widely accepted around the world, and it’s only a matter of time before they are accepted by everyone. The market for men’s bags is growing and they are here to stay. Men’s bags date as far back as 5000 years ago, and I will get into this in more detail in another article.

Before this current time as bags gain more in popularity, men’s bags were around in the ’70’s. Market research shows an increase in sales by 3 percent which may not seem like much, but the total was $957 million in mid 2013.

Men continue to learn how important it is to have a bag to carry their belongings in. What is needed to bring along grows over time for example, mobile chargers, larger wallets, headphones, glasses case, keys, chapstick, books, medication and more. There are also bags to carry your skateboard along also.

Pants and shorts become tighter with smaller pockets or none at all. The guys have to find a solution, and with the sizes and varieties to choose from, owning more than one is practical. Men’s pockets get stuffed, having to hand over a few things to women who are adding them to their own purse or handbag. Men can choose a smaller tote bag made for everyday use, over the typical larger sizes used for the gym or an overnight stay.

They blend in along with women having purses and handbags, accepting as it should be and not judging anymore.

Using an all weather protection product like Tana All Protector or a special conditioner that is sold for footwear, is a benefit to keep your bags lasting longer.

Click on Women’s Purses and Handbags for information about them or to shop for gifts, to read and shop for men’s click on Men’s Bags and Accessories. The option to shop for both are at the bottom of the two pages, and to the right on my sidebar where I have several merchants listed.

Unless otherwise stated, the bags for this article I chose from various merchants for the specific style I needed to write this article.

Your article is a life saver! My husband keeps complaining about the lack of place to carry his necessities and he keeps filling up my handbag so that sometimes I end up lacking a place for my necessities 🙂 So I plan to get him a murse (didn’t even know such a term exists). I do like the black murse in your post – the third picture – I think I could even use it for myself 🙂 Where could I get it?

      Hi Arta,

I’m glad you find this article useful. It happens often that the guys use our bags to throw their stuff in. These mens bags make a great gift when you don’t know what to get them, and of course so they can have their own bag for their belongings.

I have the link for the option to shop in that article. Just click on it and you will find a large banner for Modern Men’s Bags where they have thousands to choose from. The third one down is there and since they add new items it will move a page or two but it’s not hard to find.

Thanks for stopping by and for sharing!

I am seeing more and more need for a “man bag” (I… don’t think I could ever use the term “murse” lol), and there are a number of them that are very attractive. I am one of those people who always has pockets overflowing with an assortment of junk, so I will definitely at one point pick something up. The fact that there are so many cool types and designs now is the biggest issue for me.
I think you have a great site here and I will be back!

      Hi Craig,

The need for guys and men bags has gradually grown over time, with your wallets, cell phones, tablets, hair combs, gum etc…it’s accumulating.
When you get fed up and buy one, you won’t regret it. There are many sizes and styles so it’s not a surprise to end up owning more than one.

Thanks for stopping by and liking my website, I am looking forward to your return!

    Hi Patsy,

I love my bags, and I absolutely agree with you that “Man Bags” used to be laughed at! I’ve lived in England for the past 30 years, and I remember a lot of young English men used to carry a plastic bag from a supermarket. They would dress up stylish from head to toe, and carry a plastic bag…I didn’t understand, but naturally I followed them, stopped using my nice bags and used a supermarket bag to carry some minimal necessities for a long time!

I’m glad now that most of us seem to be proud to carry a bag according to the needs. I like my messenger bag for its easiness (to open & close) and for keeping both my hands free.

I didn’t know about the water repellant (Tana All Protector), that seems to be a great stuff, I must get that! Thanks for the great article Patsy!

      Hi Ray,

It’s nice to hear that you love your bags and thank you for sharing your story. It seems the young English men didn’t want to have anything to do with bags, but times have changed since.

I find the messenger bag is the most popular. The merchant I use who has 100’s of bags for men, has surprisingly massive choices to choose from. Anything you can think of they carry, so it’s come a long way for you guys.

The Tana All Protector I have been using for decades and won’t stop. It has saved many of my handbags from the elements so they last longer.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your comment I appreciate it!

I need a murse for school. No one really uses lockers and you always have to take everything with you. The bags you showed in this looks really cool. The one that caught my eye the most is the red bag. Do you happen to have a link to the bag?

      Hi Emiliano,

I guess times have changed now with not using lockers much anymore. It makes sense to want a bag to hold all of your belongings.

The pictures I have are just examples of different sizes and styles. I do have a great Merchant who has hundreds of different bags to choose from with many price ranges. Modern Man Bags is the best I could find, it’s excellent! Just click here to go to the Men’s Bags and Accessories page, and at the bottom you will see the banner.

Thank you for your interest, and I hope you drop by again soon!
