Making Your Own Purse Organizer-Video

If you are tired of rummaging through your handbag for your cell phone or keys, perhaps an organizer would remedy that for you. You don’t have to be an organized person to have one, it makes sense for convenience. Guys can also make one for their own bags, having instant access to cell phones, glasses or keys. Clean out your handbag to make room, by going through everything to see what is no longer needed, it’s surprising how much you will find. The goal is to only carry what is necessary for that day.

Making your own purse or handbag removable organizer is a great idea for bags that don’t already have one inside. You can move the organizer from one bag to the other, without having to take your necessities out. If I see a bag I really like but there aren’t any compartments inside, I use one or two makeup bags to substitute. By making your own, it’s customized specifically for what you carry examples are eye glasses, mobile phone, lipstick, medication, a pen and paper and other personal items. You simply measure them to fit, and cut the fabric accordingly. Having two sizes is ideal for small or larger handbags and the pockets can be made on the inside or outside of the organizer, depending on your preference. Choosing your own fabric design or color isn’t as important seeing that it’s inside the bag, but you can make it any way desired for your personal taste.

Make Your Own Organizer

The following video I chose is perfect because you can make this organizer in less than 20 minutes. The fabric featured is felt, having a thickness and strength to last. You don’t have to finish the edges because felt doesn’t fray which is an added bonus. Before you start, it’s best to watch the whole video once over to be familiar with the steps, and to get all the items needed ready to go. The steps are detailed and easy to follow starting with choosing your size, and a small one is being made in this tutorial. The felt clings together for easy sewing as it won’t slip but stay in place. A zipper foot is used in this video but I have seen others where it’s an option and not needed, the regular sewing machine foot is fine.

It’s soft and washable, as long as cold water is used. You only want enough water to cover the organizer otherwise a large amount of water will distort the shape. You can machine wash it on delicate, but don’t throw it in the dryer. It will shrink and cause pilling.

I hope you enjoyed this do it yourself (DIY) video, sewing your own organizer. I have another video tutorial for making your own messenger bag that only takes about 30 minutes, just click Making Your Own Handbag to check it out!

    Hello,
I absolutely love DIY projects. There is nothing more satisfying than creating something yourself.
The purse organizer is a fabulous idea since every woman out there has to rifle through their purse just to find keys or cellphone.
The video is great too, since I am a visual learner.
I will definitely be making my own.
    Thank you

      Hi Kayla, you are welcome.

I agree with making our own projects and how satisfying it is.

This purse organizer video is so simple to follow, and using felt that won’t fray is the best fabric!  It only takes a few minutes to make this, and you are on your way to having an organized handbag.

    Hello Patsy,

Wow, purse organizer is such a brilliant idea! I remember going through my girlfriend’s purse to find her something and it was a nightmare! The DIY video was very easy to understand.

I don’t understand why most purses only come with one zipper. It would be amazing if purse manufacturers can start using your idea.

    Kind Regards,
    Eric

Hi Eric, nice to see you back so soon.

I love purse organizers, and agree they are brilliant keeping everything in one area. It’s great to be organized, and yes this video is so simple and doesn’t take long to make.

Guys can also make one for their own bags, having instant access to cell phones or glasses..keys.

Many purses and handbags only come with the one standard zippered pocket. There are many with built in organizers which are nice.

Thanks for coming back and leaving your comment.

The purse organizer is a great idea. I see so many purses that are just one large pocket and I never choose these because all my stuff would end up in a mess at the bottom, but If I made one of these, that would eliminate part of the problem. I love DIY projects.

      Hi Jen,

When I find a handbag I really like without anything inside, I add one or two makeup bags to put my stuff in. This organizer is so easy to make and doesn’t take long, this is why I chose this tutorial over the others. It’s great to be able to take it from one bag to another. This would eliminate your problem for sure.

      Thanks for stopping by!
